My research focuses on media and communication in the Western Balkans, particularly on information disorder, political communication, digital media, and societal resilience. I am interested in how changing information environments, political and media narratives, and emerging technologies affect public opinion and democratic processes. Three major research areas that I am currently working on:
Information Disorder, Media Literacy & Societal Resilience
My work examines information disorder, post-truth communication, harmful narratives, media and information literacy, and societal resilience. I am particularly interested in how these challenges affect democratic societies and how individuals and institutions respond to an increasingly complex information environment. Current focus: information integrity, harmful narratives, and societal resilience. Projects: Fakespotting (Erasmus+); SEE U Students 5.0 (IREX/USAID); HARM-TIVE; and REUFORM – Reforming for European Future, contributing to the development of the module on disinformation within the EU reform agenda.
Political Communication, Media & Public Opinion
My research looks at political and media communication, particularly during elections and periods of political debate. I have worked on emotional appeals in political campaigns, media framing, polarization, nationalism, and identity-related narratives, and how these shape audience engagement and public opinion. Current focus: emotions and competing narratives in political communication. Collaboration: COST Action OPINION (CA21129), an international network working on the study of opinionated communication.
Digital Narratives, AI & Emerging Information Challenges
My recent work also explores digital narratives and the growing role of AI in journalism and communication. I am interested in how narratives develop and circulate across different media and political contexts, as well as questions around AI-generated content, information manipulation, transparency, and human oversight. Current focus: AI in journalism, digital narratives, and emerging forms of information influence. Projects: GEO-POWER-EU (Horizon Europe/IDSCS), with research covering Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, and Georgia; and Mapping and Countering Digital Narratives in North Macedonia: Unveiling Narratives, Networks, and Influence (Democracy Lab/Zinc Network).
