My Research

Irena Gjerasimovska

My research focuses on public finance, behavioural economics and health economics, with a particular interest in how people perceive, evaluate and respond to economic and fiscal decisions. I am interested in combining economic analysis with insights from psychology to better understand economic behaviour and to support evidence-based public policy in North Macedonia and the Western Balkans. I work in three related fields:

  1. Public Finance and Fiscal Sustainability
Public debt, fiscal risks and the long-term sustainability of public finances, particularly in small, open economies such as those in the Western Balkans, as well as how citizens perceive government borrowing.

  2. Behavioural Finance and Economic Psychology
How psychological factors and behavioural biases affect the economic and financial decisions of individuals and investors, especially in times of uncertainty and crisis.

  3. Health Economics
The economic costs of illness for households, healthcare systems and the wider economy, and how economic evidence can support better health policy.
