Genta Abdiji, a student in the international communication study program, completed a one-month summer internship at the Media Literacy & Disinformation Research Cluster (MeDisInfo) within the Social Sciences Research Group at the Max van der Stoel Institute (MVDSI). From June 10 to July 13, 2024, Genta contributed to the MeDisInfo blog by writing research essays under the mentorship of her professor and MVDSI researcher, Edlira Palloshi Disha.

Genta explored and researched challenging and thought-provoking contemporary topics,  resulting in the publication of two essays for the MeDisInfo blog. The first essay  examines how people’s emotions are misused in social media to spread disinformation  while the second one  explores the implications of AI candidates in election campaigns.

Genta also focused on exploring how the virtual world impacts Generation Z and how they construct their digital identities through selective self-presentation in the hyperpersonal phase. The team developed and distributed a questionnaire among the targeted age groups, with the results anticipated to be published in a peer-reviewed journal.

The director of the Max van der Stoel Institute Veli Kreci, the leader of the MeDisInfo Albulena Halili and researcher of the MeDisInfo Edlira Palloshi Disha awarded Genta Abdiji a certificate for successfully completing her internship. They were also glad to have such a passionate and talented student, as part of their team for a month.

In her appreciation letter to the institute, she wrote: “I have always admired the incredible work you are doing, especially in the area of Media Literacy and Disinformation.
