On February 27th, Veli Kreci, professor and director of the Max van der Stoel Institute (MVDSI), along with Fortesa Asani, researcher from the Social Sciences Group (SSG) at MVDSI, participated in the Publication Launch of “The Sustainable Development Goals: How to Accelerate Their Achievement in North Macedonia and Leave No One Behind”.
Their chapter titled ‘What Matters is Social Progress in Reducing Inequalities’ as a part of Sustainable Development Goal 10, gives an overview of inequalities in North Macedonia, with a particular focus on income inequality and its connection to poverty, and inequalities based on gender. Addressing these issues, the article proposes policy recommendations centered around the principle of Leaving No One Behind. These include enhancing the targeting of Social Protection programs, overcoming barriers to women’s participation in the labor market, utilizing Online Participatory Budgeting for social inclusion, and ensuring equal opportunities in education, particularly for the bottom 40 percent of the population.
The event was organized by UNDP and Institute for Human Rights IHR in promoting the publication on accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals in North Macedonia. The publication is composed of 14 articles written by scholars, innovators, academics, and practitioners, that give insights, policy recommendations and guidelines to move the Agenda 2030 forward.
